There is NO way to USE git. (1) You type command in Git, it spits back meaninglesserror, (2) you browse forums and read manuals. (3) Goto 1. Git leaves no time to work on a project.

like, i just graduated in some paid vendor certification, so just throw away all open source -- because they cut existing jobs by people, even existing jobs are there because the same people are using it knowingly or on some remote location.. some white man brains never think beyond jobs and selling weapons and sensual pleasures

I'm not sure what bubble this McCullough lives in but I'm pretty sure there is a thing called AI (machine learning) that will eventually have everyone in the unemployment line. I remember the days when I had to hide a porno mag in a hole in a tree 2 miles from my house and once a week I road my bike to that tree just to rub one out.Now I can spend days with endless porn at my finger tips.(sniffle, sniffle)

Sarcasm is a nice tool of general purpose humor however its not a nice tool of conveying technical concepts or beliefs. More people probably would have assimilated this talks concepts had it been presented in a normal positive way. Instead, presentations such as these just scream ignorance and arrogance.

Git represents more of Linus's own work than Linux, which was a much larger collaboration. It shows how smart the guy is & how he kept working on a new project when others were just 1 hit wonders.
Anon Wibble 7 months ago
I don't like git. Mix windows and linux line endings in files and you'll have days of hell trying to fix it all. Then just when you fixed it, someone somewhere in the company hasn't configured it perfectly, checks in some code, and the hell starts allllllll over again. For everyone. In one company, we were learning git all at the same time, and the line endings bullshit went on for 5 weeks. 5 weeks of hell. Do you have any idea how hard it is to go through and fix merge conflicts when every line is conflicted, and when you fix the conflict, the very next check in or checkout, the problem happens all over again. We lost literally weeks of work during that period. Most people wanted to return to svn, but we had gone so far down the git route, that it just wasn't practical anymore. It seemed to cause more problems than it solved, and commands that used to be a single operation in, say, svn or cvs, were 3-4 operations in git, for no apparent reason. Additionally the terminology was inexplicably counter intuitive and actually contrary to other versioning systems. People literally deleted their work by accident because they were totally confused. It was a total shambols. It cost the company tens of thousands of pounds, and the only reason we stuck with it was because it'd be a nightmare to revert back to svn, else we would have. It was a total mess, nobody knew what they were doing and the system was so complicated that it was really easy to make a mistake, and then when you made a mistake it was a total nightmare to work out how to undo it. Sourceforge was awash with confused people, and the people giving advice were just as confused, but they didn't realise it and gave confusing, contradictory and erroneous solutions. My advice is stick with SVN, yes, merge conflicts are difficult, but they aren't that much better in git either and there's soo much less overhead. Developers aren't paid to use complicated versioning systems, they are paid to solve complex problems succinctly and elegantly, something that git fails miserably to do.

Actually he convinced me to use Git. Do you want a free operating system, i don't think so. Yeah, i want it.
Kyle Maxwell 7 months ago
Yes, we know it's sarcasm. It was just pointless sarcasm.
kasuha 7 months ago
Well, Git is fine but has a few serious drawbacks. And while it sure is possible to overcome them by using it the right way , I really don't think a good versioning system should require that approach. It's free and it doesn't suck, that's its major advantage. Pretending it has no problems is not even funny.
