Lol, it's called an aquarium chiller and its not a new thing to OC, just attach pipes and turn on, no crazy air-conditioner hack.

Linus used The Verge method of thermal paste application, I see.
Nontas Anastasios 2 months ago
Linus: I use a condensator only on amd chips. Intel: hold my beer, almost all of my gens are thermal throttling at 70% cpu load. But thank you Linus for keeping the propaganda alive. Linus: shhh intel. im a fan boy Intel: ill have the last laugh. wait to you see my last gens. but shhh. we will have unsoldered cpu packages but fanboys like you will blame amd for hot cpus. Linus: let me test your cpus intel. *hits test* intel cpu: 30 to 99 degrees throttling in less than a second intel fanboys : intel best cpu ever, lets delid them for the luls

noone wants to hear your story Linus, I, the almighty editor that never made any wrong decisions in my life myself will decide to cut it out instead of speeding it up to 2x. I shall save the viewers' brains from such boredom!

Next time an editor removes Linus’s story, that person gets fucking fired.

Another great advantage to this is that if you want to get a CPU to 5ghz you can certainly do it, ya know, for marketing purposes.

Why use windshield wash fluid instead of actual coolant?
Musty Chapstick 2 months ago
Makes sense, thanks for the reply :)
lazerlake 2 months ago
Coolant is ethylene glycol a poison and it isn't good you or the environment, washer fluid is designed to be safer for the environment and you as it is designed to be sprayed into the environment. The only reason Linus used washer fluid instead of pure water is he needed a fluid with the capability to remain liquid at sub zero temperature, washer fluid fit the bill.

Sorry Linus, but from my understanding of compressor coolers, the evaporated coolant goes from the evaporator to the compressor (still in gaseous form) and then to the condenser. The idea being, that the compressed gaseous coolant has a much higher boiling point and therefore condenses at roomtemperature. BTW you can (almost) not compress fluids. That's the whole point of hydraulic systems.

compressed fluid I see how this video is going to go.
WhiteWhale 3 months ago
How about a mineral oil PC with the evaporator submerged in the same tank? Eliminates the needs for insulating and having a seperate container for fluid. Still stupid but might be the best of both worlds.

My Pc gives two temperatures for the CPU. 50° and 18°. The lower one is from my CPU and the higher one is from my Mainboard. So i dont know which is correct.
antihero3zx 3 months ago
why in the world would you do all this and not overclock? Would love to see what this is capable of.
SilvaDreams 3 months ago
Ah, this brings back memories. Only I did it with a mini-fridge compressor that had a freezer function, I kept an old AMD K6 going till 2006 being overclocked which is when it failed to keep up with modern games.

Wondering. Instead of the liquid tape and stick on insulation, could you use spray-on polyurethane foam?

So when people where doing this, I brought a used aquarium chiller and was effectively used it for over clocking until the entire system was stolen out my house.

Someone needs to go to hvac school before he talks about compressing fluids. (Fluid is not compressible it is a gas being compressed)

What if we connect the evaporation side to a regual air conditioner unit? So the heat wont be dissipated in the room, but out the house, as the regular air conditioner does it.

Wish I got my hardware for free so I could experiment with inane, batshit-crazy, tweaks. In all honesty though I was cringing when you started painting on the liquid tape. Of course, it is a method I use on my car battery terminals to prevent corrosion and it works amazingly so.

Horrible explanation of how a window a/c works. Liquids do not compress. Only gas will compress.

Why not coil the pipe passing through cooler next time so you get more surface area of pipe inside the coolant. this way the coolant going to the CPU will spend more time inside the coolant/cooler making it allot more efficient and dropping the temperature even more?
Juan Pretorius 3 months ago
I got a small deep freeze from the side of the road (fuse was broken, so it still worked). Cut some holes in the door seal, put my liquid cooling rads inside the deep freeze, made a secure seal, and boom - the results you see in this video, without all the exposed parts, and half the effort.

Would make more sense coupled to the mineral oil build that he did. That way you remove the humidity issues and can take full advantage of going this cold without the worries.

why did you use windshield wiper fluid instead of engine coolant
isthisoneunavailable 3 months ago
Need frion? Get a recovery system, a recovery bottle and get almost dead bottles from your local hvac guy under the table. They're a pain to get rid of. Also don't let that evaporator freeze over too much. Causes micro-leaks in the copper.
TMoD7007 3 months ago
You could make this a closed system with a plate heat exchanger.

No OC? Also you can avoid a lot of those concerns by running above 10 C so you don't need to worry about condensation.
